When: Friday 16 November

Where: Borsa Italiana di Milano, Piazza Affari

Borsa Italiana S.p.A. is responsible for the organization and management of the Italian stock exchange.

The Company, founded in 1997 following the privatization of the exchange, has been operational since January 2nd, 1998.
Borsa Italiana is now part of London Stock Exchange Group, following the merger effective October 1, 2007.
Borsa Italiana’s primary objective is to ensure the development of its markets, maximizing their liquidity, transparency and competitiveness while pursuing high levels of efficiency.

Its current structure configures Borsa Italiana as a market management body operating with autonomy and flexibility.
EMBA CLUB, in the spirit of curiosity and continuous education, attended the “Inside of the market” session.
It is crucial for the EMBA community to explore all the business-related hot topics.
Through the programme “Inside the market”, EMBAs found out more about the activities of a stock exchange, explored the life cycle of a trade and visited the Palazzo Mezzanotte.
Palazzo Mezzanotte, inaugurated in 1932, has become one of the architectural symbols of the fascist era.
The main area, reserved for the negotiations, “Sala delle Grida”, was conceived as an outdoor square with the most modern technological innovations.
After having hosted the negotiations for over fifty years, in 2002 the Trading Room and the rooms of the Stock Exchange have been transformed into a convention center.

Corporate Diplomacy: the Key for Success in Global Business

For international companies, navigating the unchartered waters of global business is becoming increasingly challenging. Geopolitical and economic uncertainties coupled with the necessity to engage strategically with a wide variety of different stakeholders in different markets with different cultural and institutional systems create new layers of complexity that require a new set of skills.
To create successful global strategies, today companies need to engage in corporate diplomacy, which is the ability to build strategic relationships with external stakeholders and leverage them to improve corporate reputation and create economic value. Political and cultural intelligence, strategic stakeholders’ engagement as well as the ability to communicate effectively across markets and cultures are all “soft skills” that are becoming essential to prevent and mitigate “hard” risks.
Drawing on both academic research and practical examples, the lecture will show how, in today’s volatile, ambiguous, and uncertain world, corporate diplomacy has become a competitive advantage for companies with international ambitions.

Guest Speaker

Diego Gilardoni, an international strategic consultant with professional experience in Europe, US, Asia and Africa, advises international companies faced with the communication and cultural challenges associated with operating in an increasingly complex global business environment.
An expert on China, he is the author of “Decoding China. Cross-cultural strategies for successful business with the Chinese” (Itim International, 2017).

Gilardoni is also an international speaker specialized in global business, corporate diplomacy and reputation. He has been invited to international conferences such as the Istanbul Leadership Summit, the World Communication Forum, the High Forum for Intercultural Business Communication in Beijing, the annual convention of the China International Public Relations Association and the Euro-China Forum in Brussels.
A graduate in History from the University of Fribourg, he holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Global Business from the University of Oxford and an Executive Certificate in Advocacy in International Affairs from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva.

The event is in collaboration with AIF, Associazione Imprese Familiari.

Awarding the best new business ideas in Ticino

USI EMBA is pleased to present this exceptional opportunity.

Boldbrain is an accelerator aimed at “early stage” startups and ideas.

The target are technological innovations and the goal is to provide participants the needed tools to assess whether their idea is valid or not and if it has the prerequisites to be transformed into a scalable business. Boldbrain will provide the useful basis to start the challenging path of development of the startup.

This is the new Ticinese acceleration program for innovative startups, which replaces the historic and famous StartCup Ticino.

The final event of the program is a celebratory moment that will allow the finalists to present their project in front of a heterogeneous audience and a popular jury that, together with the judges’ evaluations, will decree the 5 winners of the competition.

The event will be organized in the Aula Magna of Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) in Lugano, in the presence of the political authorities, the Rector of USI and other important representatives of the Ticino business world, on Tuesday 4th December at 18:00.

USI EMBA plays a fundamental role in wanting to transform Ticino into an active society, which is why it rewards the most innovative project of Boldbrain with a full scholarship, trying to recognize and give merit to the entrepreneurial spirit and continuous education.
